With this in mind, specialists at respected automotive magazine Auto Express have compiled a ranking of the finest hybrid SUVs currently available, reports the Express.
Their top pick for the best model presently sold in Britain was the BMW X3 30e xDrive. Starting at around £58,500, they noted it could "double-up as a family transport and a good driver's car".
They commended the BMW for its ride quality and handling alongside "class-leading" infotainment plus a "smooth and responsive" powertrain. The powertrain comprises a two-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor.
While the BMW secured first place in their assessment, the specialists were less convinced by its appearance, the material quality offered for the price, or the fact the steering was "light" and "short on feedback". Securing second place after the BMW was Nissan's Qashqai e-Power.
The Qashqai has existed in various iterations for roughly two decades. This model, with pricing beginning at approximately £34,860, received acclaim for its powertrain alongside a refined ride quality and technological features.
Nevertheless, it dropped points for its CVT transmission, a more compact boot compared to rivals, and "low speed fidget" when the vehicle was assessed on larger wheels. Regardless, the testers positioned it narrowly behind the BMW in second spot.
Rounding off the top three was the Dacia Bigster Hybrid. Dacia has established itself in recent times by manufacturing high-calibre vehicles and offering them at competitive rates.
Pricing for the Bigster Hybrid begins at £25,215 and its excellent value was emphasised, particularly the generous space provided for the reasonable investment. Additionally, similar to the BMW and Nissan, its powertrain received positive ratings.

Though, mirroring the Nissan, concerns were noted regarding the ride comfort at lower speeds. Nonetheless, the testers commented: "Dacia has a reputation of making cars which are practical and give buyers great value for money, and the Dacia Bigster Hybrid isn't about to buck that trend."
For those desiring their hybrid SUV "to feel a little luxurious" the testers recommended prospective purchasers should examine alternative manufacturers for a more upmarket experience.
