Aspen Motorsports Park is looking for a new owner. The 50-acre site in Woody Creek, Colorado has been hosting racing since 1963, but the 1.1-mile track is facing an uncertain future, unless an enthusiastic buyer can be found.

Alongside the main seven-bend circuit there are two kart tracks and an off-road course, and all provide the additional challenge of altitude, as the park sits at around 7900 feet above sea level. That makes it harder for engines (and drivers) to breathe, and the thinner air makes aerodynamics less effective as well.

Nonetheless, Aspen has been “the cradle of sports car racing in the Rocky Mountains” since the 1950s with the first race being run on the town’s unpaved roads in the summer of 1951. Colorado’s Governor Edwin C. Johnson banned street racing in 1955, but local gearheads were determined to keep the sport alive, and the new circuit was opened on July 27, 1963. Formula Vee and Formula Junior competed in the first ever race day, with Corvette, Maserati, Lancia, Lotus, and Porsche racers also taking to the track.

More recently, the park has been home to the Aspen Racing and Racing Sports Car Club, which hosted regular races and track days. Performance driving and winter driving schools have also been offered.

The site includes a 1300-square foot accommodation, with permission to build a residence of up to 9250 square feet. “Whether you envision a private motorsport experience or a one-of-a-kind luxury retreat, this property is a blank slate for the visionary buyer,” says realtor Carrie Wells.

Aspen Motorsports Park is just ten minutes from downtown Aspen where luxury four-bed homes can sell for in excess of $30 million, so the $23 million asking price for a piece motorsports heaven seems like a sweet deal.

Oh the fun I could have there. Rally school resort!
