The Alpine A290 Rallye will first compete later this year in a single-make rally challenge

Words by Luke Barry

Alpine has unveiled a new A290 Rallye, built to the FIA’s eRally5-1 technical regulations.

Based on the A290 road car – a performance-based version of the new Renault 5 – the A290 Rallye is on display at this week’s Rallye Rouergue Rodez Aveyron Occitanie in France but will make its competition debut later in the year.

A single-rally challenge in France will mark the competitive debut of the car at a rally to be confirmed, with Alpine supplying technical support and charging infrastructure. It will also have a dedicated prize structure.

Alpine has indicated the car will also be usable at individual rallies that are not part of its own organizing efforts. DirtFish understands that Alpine will eventually organize a single-make cup for the A290 Rallye within national championships, potentially as early as 2026.

Powered by an 220bhp electric motor, the front-wheel-drive machine benefits from ALP Racing suspension and shock absorbers, a ZF limited slip differential, a hydraulic handbrake and what Alpine calls an “innovative system” that emits sound in correlation with the car’s speed and throttle position.

The price is €59,990, excluding VAT, for a painted and assembled A290 Rallye, which will make its global debut at next week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 10-13).
