Just four months after it was revealed, the Alan Mann 68 Edition Ford Escort made its competitive debut at the Silverstone Festival 2025. Boreham Motorworks and Alan Mann Racing brought one of British motorsport’s most famous cars back to life. This new edition is a faithful continuation of the 1968 Alan Mann Racing Mk1 Escort.
The car showed off its balance and agility on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. Fans packed the stands to watch it in action. The Alan Mann 68 Edition is not a restomod. It’s a proper race car, built to period-correct specifications and finished to match the original exactly. Only 24 of these cars will be built for customers.
The car was the only Group 5 entry in the Adrian Flux Trophy for the Motor Racing Legends Historic Touring Car Challenge. It started alongside 41 other highly competitive racers. It finished 25th, completing the full race distance—a strong showing for a first outing.
Henry Mann and legendary driver Steve Soper shared the driving duties. Henry described the experience as “truly special.” He said the steering was sharp, the brakes strong, and the chassis gave great feedback on high-speed corners. The team made some changes between qualifying and the race, including stiffening the front suspension. That improved the car’s balance and made it more rewarding to drive. Racing alongside Steve Soper added to the occasion.
This race wasn’t just about results. The team used the event as a testing ground. They worked hard to gather feedback and fine-tune the car in changing weather conditions. What they learned will help them perfect the 24 customer cars that will be delivered soon. The goal is to provide customers with a race-proven machine and the knowledge needed to set it up for their own competition.
Alan Mann Racing also entered two Ford Mustangs in the Transatlantic Touring Car Trophy (Pre-’66), part of the Masters Historic Racing series. Their Mustangs qualified 5th and 6th, showing the team’s engineering strength. Tom Ingram and Jack Ruddell drove one Mustang to 5th place after an intense battle near the end of the race. Impressively, six of the top ten qualifiers were Alan Mann Racing-built cars.
The Alan Mann 68 Edition’s first race showed it honors the legacy of the original car while proving itself in modern competition. Historic racing fans and lovers of classic British motorsport will be watching closely as this story develops.
