A 20-strong collection of low-and-no mileage McLaren road cars previously owned by Mansour Ojeh is now for sale.
Ojeh was a major investor in McLaren and that gave him the pick of vehicles from the British supercar maker. Ojeh’s choice was to opt for the last of the line in every case, and he amassed a breathtaking collection—all painted the same unique Yquem color as his F1. McLaren subsequently renamed this hue Mansour Orange.
The F1 is still the most desirable McLaren of them all and Ojeh’s car has covered just 1,810 km since new. His P1 GTR has also been used on the occasional McLaren track day, but the other 18 vehicles offered for sale, including a P1, Speedtail, Senna, Elva and Sabre have never been driven.
Ojeh’s relationship with McLaren began in 1984 when he took a stake in the Formula 1 team through his company TAG, which provided the Porsche-designed engines that powered two World Championships. Ojeh was also key to launching McLaren Automotive and McLaren Applied Technologies. He passed away in June 2021, leaving the 20 McLarens behind, which are now being sold by British specialist Tom Hartley Junior, who recently brokered Bernie Ecclestone’s car collection.
Ojeh’s widow Kathy says, “McLaren meant so much to Mansour. It was more than business, it was pure passion and it was in that vein that he curated this unique collection of McLaren road cars. The ‘Last of Legends’ car collection is a treasure for our family—a reminder of the hours we witnessed Mansour designing each car to his specifications. Parting with this very personal collection is not easy, but it is time for it to go to its new custodian, one who truly ‘gets it’ and will cherish owning and caring for it the way Mansour did.”
Hartley has high hopes for the sale. “This is the most significant McLaren road car collection ever assembled, and I sincerely hope it is acquired by a single buyer, just as the Ecclestone Grand Prix collection was which we sold earlier this year,” he says.
“For me, the highlight of the collection is, of course, the F1. It’s widely regarded as the greatest road car ever built, and this particular example is the very last one produced. I have no doubt this will fetch a world record price for the model when it’s sold.
“There are so many other remarkable cars in the collection,” adds Hartley. “Each one completely unique and the final example of its model ever built. One especially poignant example is the Elva, delivered after Mansour’s passing. In an extraordinary gesture of respect, McLaren replaced the manufacturer’s badges on the front and rear with Mansour’s own emblem—a tribute to one of their founders.”
