Capricorn’s debut hypercar, the Capricorn 01 Zagato, is a breath of fresh air for purists. Built with a focus on raw driving thrills and minimal distractions, this mid-engined masterpiece delivers more than 888 brake horsepower from a 5.2-litre supercharged V8. Handcrafted in Germany and styled by the legendary Italian design house Zagato, it is a marriage of race bred engineering and coachbuilt art.
Under the carbonfibre skin lies an in-house developed V8, built around a Ford block, complete with bespoke forged internals, dry sump lubrication, and a supercharger pushing power beyond 900 horsepower in some reports. The engine churns out a formidable 737 pound feet of torque. Power flows to the rear wheels through a traditional five-speed dogleg manual gearbox from CIMA, a rarity in today's hypercar world where paddles rule.
Weighing in at just 1200 kilograms dry gives the Capricorn 01 elusive lightness that echoes classic sports car ethos. Suspension is a motorsport grade double wishbone setup with pushrods and Bilstein adaptive dampers that switch between comfort, sport, and track. The steering system uses a custom electric power assist that drops out at speed, delivering an old-school mechanical feel between driver and road.
Braking comes from Brembo six-piston calipers gripping carbon ceramic discs, ensuring the stopping power can match the outrageous acceleration 0 to 62 miles per hour happens in under 3 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 220 miles per hour.
Inside, the cockpit is stripped to essentials. Fixed seats form part of the safety cell, wrapped in Alcantara and Connolly leather. Controls are analogue with milled aluminium knobs, toggle switches, and even the steering wheel houses mode selectors and shift indicators. There is no touchscreen, no cruise control, no driver aids to dull the senses.
Capricorn consciously rejects the arms race of power figures and electronic gimmicks. As CEO Robertino Wild puts it, the 01 Zagato exists for the pure joy of driving, not lap times or record chasing. It embraces old school values in a new age, offering an ultra-lightweight, analogue driving experience combined with Zagato’s unmistakable design flair.
Limited to just 19 units, production begins in 2026. It’s a car for those who want their thrills raw, their connection direct, and their hypercar storied and special. The Capricorn 01 Zagato might just be the rare manual hypercar the petrolhead world has been waiting for.
