A moment of sheer confusion turned into a race day spectacle at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in California when a Tesla Model Y driver managed to get lost and drove onto the track during an active motorcycle race, barreling against the flow of the competitors.
The incident unfolded during an American Federation of Motorcyclists event and was caught live on stream. Cameras captured the Model Y cruising on a clear section of the circuit, but dangerously going the wrong way relative to the speeding motorcycles.
Race officials reacted instantly, throwing a red flag to halt the race for safety reasons. The commentators, initially unaware, expressed disbelief upon spotting the electric SUV on track. “I’ve been watching motorcycle racing for 23 years and I don’t know what I’m looking at right now,” one remarked, stunned by the unexpected intruder.
How the Model Y ended up on the race circuit is still uncertain, but speculation points to the driver possibly searching for a nearby Tesla Supercharger located on a main road close to the track. Somehow, the driver navigated past barriers or signage to enter the high-speed race environment.
