Petar Krtinic, a 23-year-old police officer from Bedford, just lost his license in spectacular fashion. On January 2, his sister filmed him hurtling down the A421 in a highly modified Volkswagen Golf with the speedometer topping 150 miles per hour, even hitting 166 at one point. The footage, captured in the rain, lit up social media and sealed his fate.

Bedfordshire Police acted fast. Krtinic was brought before Luton Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving after first denying everything. His punishment: a 12-month driving ban, a 24-week suspended prison sentence, 200 hours' unpaid community service, and a £234 fine. He’ll need to pass an extended retest before he can drive again.

But the story doesn’t end there. Krtinic had resigned from the force just before a misconduct hearing relating to other incidents a move the department says spared him certain dismissal. Officers called the stunt "appalling," warning that nobody, not even police, is above the law when it comes to keeping the roads safe.

One viral video, a career in ruins, and a hard lesson for thrill-seekers tempted to treat public roads as a racetrack.
