Helix, the Milton Keynes–based specialist in ultra power-dense electric motors and inverters, has teamed up with Californian aerospace startup Astro Mechanica to power a new generation of hybrid-electric supersonic engines. The collaboration centres on Duality™, Astro Mechanica’s proprietary dual‑use propulsion system designed to tackle the biggest economic barrier to supersonic flight: fuel efficiency.

At the heart of the current Duality prototype sit four Helix SPX242‑94 motors. Each unit weighs just 31.3kg yet can deliver 400kW of peak power and up to 470Nm of torque, with 300kW and 286Nm available continuously. Working as part of the propulsor unit, the motors drive a two‑stage compressor and give the system the power density needed to shrink hardware size and weight while maintaining serious thrust capability.

Duality separates the propulsion unit from the turboshaft core using a power‑dense hybrid-electric layout. A gas turbine drives two motors as a turbogenerator to produce electrical power, which then feeds the four Helix machines in the propulsors to control both fan and compressor. This architecture lets the engine behave like a turbofan at subsonic speeds, a turbojet at lower supersonic speeds, and transition towards ramjet-like operation at very high supersonic flight. The result is a combined‑cycle turboelectric adaptive engine that stays efficient from take‑off right through to beyond Mach 3, especially when integrated with Astro Mechanica’s advanced airframe designed for true transpacific range.

Helix is already developing bespoke hardware for the fifth generation of Astro Mechanica’s propulsion system. The new custom motors are designed to power the full‑scale turbogenerator and will each weigh 61.5kg while delivering 900kW of continuous power in both generator and propulsion modes. Peak output is targeted at 950kW at up to 20,000rpm, with maximum torque of 575Nm, and a new isolation system tailored for extreme‑altitude operation.

Thanks to Helix’s radial‑flux motor technology and its focus on power density, the turbogenerator and propulsor can operate at the efficiency levels Duality demands. The partnership brings together Helix’s experience at the sharp end of electric propulsion — from Formula E and record‑breaking hypercars to aerospace and marine projects — with Astro Mechanica’s ambition to make on‑demand supersonic passenger and cargo travel as accessible and economical as today’s commercial aviation.

Astro Mechanica is currently testing the fourth‑generation engine prototype and is targeting a first flight within three years. Over the next decade, the company plans to roll out adaptable, high‑speed systems for government and commercial operators, while deepening its collaboration with Helix as they push the frontier of high‑speed, low‑emissions aviation.

SLSHOP has discovered a remarkable relic from automotive history: a 1982 Mercedes-Benz 500SL (R107) that has covered only 42 miles since leaving the factory, never registered or driven on UK roads. This right-hand drive vehicle finished in Blue Green Metallic represents possibly the only unrestored, unregistered factory new R107 SL outside the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.

The car was purchased brand-new on 30 November 1982 by Mr. Hough, a Staffordshire watchmaker, for £24,400 a price reflecting over £87,000 in today’s money. Carefully trailer-transported to Mr. Hough’s home in Gnosall, it was meticulously stored in a heated, dehumidified garage for more than four decades. His attention to detail included creating a hallmarked sterling silver Mercedes-Benz badge still accompanying the car.

This exceptional example retains original factory stickers throughout, Waxoyl protection on the engine and exhaust, and every factory option available in 1982, including air conditioning, heated seats, ABS, leather rear seats, and metallic paint totaling £2,331 (£8,360 today) in extras. Not a trace of corrosion mars the body, and the vehicle comes with original sales paperwork and incomplete registration forms.

The Mercedes-Benz 500SL (R107) was produced from 1980 to 1989, featuring a 5.0 litre V8 M117 E50 engine delivering 228 hp and 405 Nm of torque. It could sprint to 60 mph in 7.7 to 8.1 seconds, competing with Italian supercars of its era. The car came with creature comforts such as cruise control, headlamp washers, and electric windows, with optional high-end features like air conditioning and rear leather seats becoming available after 1986.

Dubonnet dreamt up this car to turn heads at the toughest races, and he wanted it light, fast and elegant. Hispano Suiza teamed up with Nieuport-Astra, best known for their aircraft, and what they built earned the nickname “Tulipwood Torpedo.” The body used thin strips of mahogany—just 3 millimeters thick—held together with thousands of aluminum rivets and carefully varnished by hand. The end result weighed only 70 kg, a genuine featherweight by 1920s standards. Dubonnet’s Torpedo was more than a showpiece; it finished the legendary Targa Florio in sixth place and the Coppa Florio in fifth, taking on the big names of endurance racing.

After its time on the track, Dubonnet tweaked the car for road use, adding creature comforts like headlights and a windshield. The Torpedo changed hands several times, survived World War II, and still shows off much of its original glory. In 2022, it made headlines again when it sold at auction for a record price.

Prepared to Group 4 specification, a 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 is finished in the livery of the Daytona that won its class at Le Mans in 1974. Rally stars include a Lancia Stratos that competed in the Italian Rally Championship, a concours-condition Fiat 131 Abarth Rally Group 4 driven by Markku Alén, a Lancia Delta HF Integrale 8V Martini Works “Safari” and a very rare Group B Citroën BX 4TC.

1976 BMW 3.0 CSL Group 2 (Estimate: €500.000 - €600.000)
When BMW decided it wanted to turn its CS coupé into a motorsport master, the result was the 3.0 CSL or Coupé Sport Lightweight. Nicknamed the ‘Batmobile’ because of its aerodynamic package, the 3.0 CSL dominated the European Touring Car Championship in the 1970s, winning an impressive five championship titles thanks to its lightweight construction, 300hp high-revving straight-six engine and great handling.

This superb example was prepared for a Belgian BMW dealership to campaign on the track in 1976. It received comprehensive racing modifications and debuted at Zandvoort in the Netherlands Touring Car Championship. After only a small number of races, the car was entered into Le Mans, where, despite qualifying at the back of the grid, it went on to finish 24th and first in the Group 2 class, a remarkable result. With a taste for victory, an all-Belgian driver line-up took on the Spa 24 Hours, again climbing through the field to take the lead in the final hours before passing the chequered flag victorious.

Sold at the end of the 1976 season, this incredible piece of touring car history has been used in various competitive hill climb and track events since, including the Monza Historic, Zoute Grand Prix and the Spa Classic. It has been displayed at multiple concours events and since being acquired by its current owner in 2011, has benefitted from regular maintenance and preparation, along with a complete engine rebuild in 2018 and 2019. It is presented at the Zoute Concours Auction in its 24 Hours of Spa-winning livery and is eligible for some of the greatest historic racing events, including the Le Mans Classic.

1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione Specification (Estimate: €800.000 - €1.000.000)
Delivered to its first owners in Paris in 1970, chassis number 13213 spent its early life as a luxury GT road car, with beneficial competition modifications made to the bodywork and engine by its second owner in the early-1970s. In 1983, the car’s third and long-term owner had the Daytona converted into a Group 4 competition car under the care of l’Autofficina Sauro Mingarelli of Bologna and Carrozzeria Egidio Brandol of Montale.

In 2023 it was re-liveried in homage to the victory of the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 in the GTS class at the 1974 Le Mans 24 Hour race, driven by Dominique Bardini and Cyril Grandet. Along with its stunning competition appearance, this Daytona is road legal, has been extremely well-prepared, and is offered with a Massini history report, FIVA and FIA passport valid until 2034, making it eligible for some of the most prestigious classic car events.

1974 Lancia Stratos HF Group 4 Specification (Estimate: €600.000 - €800.000)
The Lancia Stratos is as dramatic today as it was when it was launched at the Turin Motor Show in 1971. Designed by Marcello Gandini of Bertone, it was unlike any other car and its radical design would quickly make its mark on the world rally scene, with Lancia winning three World Rally Championship titles from 1974 to 1976.

To meet homologation standards for Group 4 rallying, Lancia built 492 road-going Stradale versions of the Stratos, each featuring a hand-built V6 engine from Ferrari. Delivered to its first owner in 1974, this Stratos Stradale was soon converted by its owner to Group 4 specification and it went on to enjoy a successful rally career, including in the Italian Rally Championship in 1982. Since then, it has also taken part in the Tour de Corse Historique and the Rally Circuit Cote d’Azur. Now finished in iconic Pirelli livery, the car has been fully restored and maintained as part of a significant collection. It is offered with a large history file including magnificent period action photos.

1976 Fiat 131 Abarth Rally Group 4 (Estimate: €320.000 - €380.000)
The debut of the Fiat 131 Abarth marked the end for the famous Lancia Stratos, but the beginning of a spectacular era for the Fiat name in world rallying. The 131 Abarth won its debut race in the 1976 European Rally Championship and went on to secure the WRC Constructors’ Title for Fiat in 1977, 1978 and 1980. World rallying legend, Walter Röhrl, took one of his two WRC Drivers’ titles in a Fiat 131 Abarth.

Fiat produced just 46 131 Abarth works rally cars, with chassis number 131AR2045674 campaigned in the 1977 World Rally Championship. Raced by such famous names as Fulvio Bachelli/Francesco Rosetti and Markku Alén/Ilkka Kivimäki, this superb piece of rallying history is finished in the period-correct Olio Fiat Works factory livery from the 1977 Rally Portugal and benefits from an extensive restoration to its original factory condition by its current owner. That restoration has only just been completed, making this Fiat 131 Abarth not only a highly collectable car with genuine factory team motorsport provenance, but one that is in pristine concours condition.

1989 Lancia Delta HF Integrale 8V Martini Lancia Works “Safari” Group A (Estimate: €300.000 - €400.000)
Raced by Jorge Recalde and Jorge Del Buonoin in the epic 1989 Marlboro Safari Rally in Kenya, this Group A Lancia Delta HF Integrale 8V Martini Lancia Works Safari is presented in its iconic Martini Lancia livery from the 1989 season. It remains almost exactly as it was when it finished racing that year, having been used as a practice car by renowned rally driver, Miki Biasion, before entering private ownership in 1990. It is a wonderfully preserved example of the Martini Lancia legacy and the heydays of Group A rallying, ready to tackle the stages of classic rally events around the world.

1985 Citroën BX 4TC (Estimate: €100.000 - €150.000) - Offered Without Reserve
Rallying in the 1980s was dominated by the spectacular Group B cars, with the seemingly limitless power and incredible sound of such motorsport icons as the Audi S1 Quattro, Lancia Delta S4 and the Peugeot 205 T16. Spectators travelled from around the world to see and hear these mighty machines in action and today they are extremely desirable among car collectors.

1986 saw the debut of a Group B rally car that many are not so aware of, the Citroën BX 4TC. It featured widened bodywork, integrated rally spotlights and a 2.2-litre in-line four-cylinder engine that delivered 200hp to all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. It was as powerful and loud as its rivals, yet it retained many of the features of the road-going version, including five doors, Citroën’s famous hydro-pneumatic suspension and even Jaeger instrumentation. Unfortunately, it arrived just as motorsport’s governing body, the FIA, put an end to Group B regulations, with Citroën having sold just 86 of the 200 it produced. Those that weren’t sold were destroyed, making the BX 4TC an extremely rare piece of rallying history.

Chassis number XL3024 was gifted to rally, F1 and endurance racing driver, Jean-Pierre Beltoise by Citroën in 1988 and he kept the car until 2005 when it was sold as part of his collection. The car has never been registered and shows only 180km on the odometer, meaning it is not only a rare and fascinating collector car, but a truly pristine example of one of the most exciting periods in rallying history.

The star of Pebble Beach 2025 was the unique 1939 Mk V Corniche, making history as the first manufacturer-entered car to undergo full judging at the event’s 75-year run. This remarkable car was painstakingly restored over 15 years by Bentley experts and partners and was proudly displayed on its original registration, GRA 270. It completed a stunning Tour d’Elegance along the Monterey coastline before the show.

At Salon Privé on the grounds of Blenheim Palace, Bentley’s 1953 R Type Continental—often regarded as the design ancestor of the modern Continental GT—grabbed Best-in-Class honours in the historic HJ Mulliner coachwork category. Known affectionately as ‘Jas,’ this recently refreshed classic now lives alongside its trophy in Bentley’s Heritage Garage in Crewe.

Another highlight came at Hampton Court Concours of Elegance, where Bentley’s 1930 8 Litre Weymann saloon shone as the best manufacturer-entered car. Priced from £58,755 OTR, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive promises up to 500 miles (WLTP) on a single charge, courtesy of sixth-generation eDrive technology featuring an 800-volt architecture and rapid 400 kW charging—enabling up to 231 miles in just ten minutes.

Prototype systems are already being built at BMW’s competence centres in Munich and Steyr, with core drive components coming from the Landshut technology hub. While Toyota supplies the individual fuel cells, BMW leads the full system’s architecture to deliver brand-specific performance.

At BMW’s hydrogen competence centre in Munich, prototypes are assembled and tested for both the operating strategy and for full vehicle validation. Special attention is given to quality assurance and scalable, industrialised production methods. The system not only includes the fuel cells but also the cooling, hydrogen, and air systems for stable and efficient operation.

Series production at Steyr will draw on decades of drive system production experience. New test rigs and facilities are under construction to support hydrogen technology, as Plant Steyr becomes home to electric, combustion, and now fuel cell solutions for the future BMW range. Klaus von Moltke, Senior Vice President Engine Production, called Steyr “a prime example of the BMW Group’s technology-open approach” and highlighted its unique blend of development and manufacturing expertise.

Meanwhile, BMW Group Plant Landshut will provide key components, beginning with the construction of production hardware in May 2026. BMW Energy Master, the vehicle’s central control unit for power supply and data, will support both fuel cell and high-voltage electric applications at voltages between 400V and 800V. The first prototypes for this hydrogen-specific device will be built at Dingolfing, with Landshut also manufacturing the pressure plates and housings, as already seen with the iX5 Hydrogen.

BMW’s next-generation hydrogen project shows the brand’s commitment to a future of clean, flexible mobility, combining innovation, European manufacturing, and a keen focus on efficiency and sustainability.

This annual gathering is more than just a car show. Mazda Fan Festa is a high-energy celebration that puts fans right at the heart of the action. Among the jaw-dropping highlights, visitors will see the legendary 1991 Le Mans-winning Mazda 787B out on track—a rare treat for any racing devotee. This year, for the first time, the beloved Mazda Media MX-5 Endurance Race becomes part of Fan Festa. With a 35-year tradition behind it, this event has journalists and media personalities battling it out in spec MX-5s, making it accessible and thrilling for everyone in attendance.

Of course, it’s not just about what happens on the circuit. Across the venue, families and hardcore fans alike will find immersive, hands-on experiences designed to bring them closer to the cars and the people behind Mazda. The festival theme, “a place to enjoy cars even more together with fans,” runs through every detail, from interactive conversations with Mazda engineers to fan meet-ups and unique motorsport showcases. Dedicated children’s content ensures younger attendees get just as much out of the weekend as the grown-ups.

This year’s event introduces multi-sensory programming that lifts the curtain on Mazda’s development and design process. Participants can dive into coding workshops, try their hand at vehicle planning and simulation, or get a taste of the business side during commercialisation activities. There’s also a new technology showcase, great eats from premium food outlets, and plenty of Mazda merchandise up for grabs.

More action awaits on the tarmac. Round 5 of the Mazda Fan Endurance Race Series ‘Shizuoka’ adds competitive edge, while lucky owners get a shot at lapping Fuji with their own cars in a massive parade. The ever-popular ‘circuit safari’ lets fans see the action up-close from the comfort of a bus as historic race cars scream by. Mazda Spirit Racing’s Super Taikyu Series entries will be on display, and the virtual racing zone opens up the world of digital competition for everyone.

Presented by McLaren Group Holdings CEO, Nick Collins and McLaren Racing CEO, Zak Brown, and hosted by Justin Bell, third place overall finisher at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans in the #51 McLaren F1 GTR, Project: Endurance showcased a new livery with a nod to the famed 1974 Indianapolis 500 winning McLaren M16.

First revealed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, the McLaren Hypercar will make its competitive debut in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) as McLaren campaigns to again win the Triple Crown* of motorsport - this time in a single season.

The new livery takes its inspiration from the first of McLaren’s Triple Crown victories, when the M16, driven by Texan Johnny Rutherford, won the 1974 Indianapolis 500. The body colour is updated to McLaren Orange with a dark blue centre strip that is inspired by the colour of the Texas flag, and the roof of the cockpit is adorned with the lone white star of Texas as carried on the helmet design used by Rutherford – who was known as ‘Lone Star JR.’ The livery carries Lone Star JR’s race number 3 as well as McLaren’s Speedy Kiwi and Speedmark logos.

Project: Endurance offers the opportunity to own an authentic Le Mans Hypercar – a driving experience few will ever experience – and to be at the very heart of an elite motorsport development and testing program. This includes full behind-the-scenes access to the upcoming McLaren United AS WEC campaign, key team personnel and drivers as well as a comprehensive track driving program at world-famous race circuits.

The US global launch of newly created company ‘Gordon Murray Special Vehicles’ saw the presentation of new supercars from its ‘SV Design’ and ‘Bespoke’ product lines. Reflecting on Gordon’s love for endurance racing and his car’s emphatic 1995 Le Mans win, both vehicles take inspiration from one of the world’s greatest road races and deliver contemporary visions of the era’s racers.

GMSV S1 LM
The GMSV S1 LM is the first ever commission executed by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles. As GMSV’s first vehicle, ‘S1’ denotes ‘Special One’, born from the customer’s passion for Gordon’s 1990s designs and his landmark 1995 win at Le Mans. The timeless design pays homage to the beauty of Murray’s original Le Mans-winning race car featuring prominent high-downforce aerodynamic elements. The primary focus of this project was to push the seven principles of Prof. Gordon Murray further than ever before with a particular emphasis on exclusivity, return to beauty, engineering art, lightweightness, and driving perfection.

Professor Gordon Murray, Group Executive Chairman: “I love timeless design. I never want us to join the race to make the most outrageous looking supercar at expense of balance, beauty and proportion. Look at the result, the car is timeless and beautiful.”

Its profile features a newly lowered roofline and every surface is completely new, made from ultra-lightweight carbon fibre body panels. The aero package is specific to S1 LM, with a front splitter, rear diffuser, and dual element rear wing that together deliver significant downforce and stability. At both ends, Le Mans-inspired lights feature precision-engineered housings that flow seamlessly with the LM’s sculpted bodywork.

Building on Gordon Murray’s belief that the engine is the heart of the car and represents at least half of the experience, the S1 LM places its masterpiece at the very centre. The removal of the rear fan and oil cooling pack frees space to house a unique and exclusive 4.3-litre V12, producing over 700 PS – paired with a bespoke Inconel exhaust system, wrapped in 18-karat gold-foiled heat shielding. Engine development focused on larger displacement, lighter internals, and a higher compression ratio, maximising power, torque, and responsiveness. Capable of revving to 12,100 rpm, the V12 delivers a distinctive harmony through its four centrally mounted exhausts, inspired by the 1995 Le Mans–winning legend.

The manual gearbox was developed using the T.50s casing with T.50 internals and optimised linkage and set-up to deliver short rifle-bolt throws. Suspension is bespoke, with new geometry, a lower ride height, and unique damper settings to deliver a sharp and highly connected driving experience. The innovative solid-mounted engine enables the purest expression of transient handling while minimising unwanted noise and vibration.

The unique, race-inspired cockpit of the S1 LM is ergonomically designed around its central driving position, creating a fighter jet-style environment with minimalist, skeletal architecture, built on one of Gordon Murray’s seven principles: engineering art. The interior explores new lightweighting concepts, utilises the finest materials, and showcases bespoke craftsmanship at every touchpoint, delivering precision that embodies its motorsports pedigree.

The Bespoke division of GMSV will build the client just five of these ultra-exclusive, road-legal S1 LM models for an undisclosed price, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026.

GMSV Le Mans GTR
The sleek GMSV ‘Le Mans GTR’ draws on Murray’s own longtail Le Mans racers, adding inspiration from other great longtail cars of the 1970s, 80s, 90s. Icons like the Matra-Simca MS660, Porsche 917, and Alpha Romeo Tipo 33/3 contribute timeless characteristics, with performance-led aerodynamics and a distinctive SV Design language separating the new models from the purity of GMA’s supercars.

The new GMSV platform blends road going capability with track-inspired precision. For the Le Mans GTR GMSV utilises the high-revving GMA V12 engine and manual six-speed transmission, but changes almost every other element of the car. Every aspect of the new supercar is founded in Murray’s ethos of lightweight-led, engineering art with a road-going, yet track-inspired driving experience at the core of every design decision.

Featuring enhanced Passive Boundary Layer Control, the sleek form enables low drag, while the aero-balanced front splitter, deep side skirts, and twin-channel rear diffuser generate maximum ground effect aerodynamics. Achieved without the need for the rear-mounted fan of T.50 and T.50s, the high-speed, high-grip package is enhanced further with the addition of a deep, full-width rear wing, delivering optimal balance of downforce and drag for road and track.

Exiting between the twin-tunnel diffuser, the Le Mans GTR double exhaust is engineered to deliver a deep and balanced V12 soundtrack, while the roof-mounted ram-air intake adds to the orchestral cabin experience as owners explore the full 12,100 rpm rev range.

For those opting to drive on circuits, the new SV Design model has stiffer and lighter suspension, a wider track, larger tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2), greater cooling, and optimised weight distribution. The Le Mans GTR gains larger air vents at the front and adds side-pod intakes ahead of the rear wheels for engine and gearbox cooling. To boost dynamics further, the Gordon Murray team innovated a solid engine mounting system that evades much of the noise and vibration issues commonly associated with solid mounting.

Interior quality is retained despite the driving experience being far more track-focused than GMA’s halo T.50. All driver-focused components are newly designed with the entire dash, all switches and dials, seat cushioning, and pedal pads reimagined. Customers can specify materials and colours to honour iconic longtail racers from years past or work with the Creative design team to produce a highly personalised, modern cockpit.

A limited series of just 24 GMSV Le Mans GTR supercars will be built, one for every hour of the famous race. Development is already underway with the first customer production cars set for completion in 2026. In collaboration with Joe Macari Performance Cars, GMSV paired each model with its owner. All Le Mans GTR supercars are sold, prices are undisclosed.

Professor Gordon Murray, CBE – Executive Chairman, Gordon Murray Group
Having spent 20 years as Technical Director to two Formula One teams from 1969-1990, Gordon Murray has a wealth of technical, design, and engineering experience. At Brabham he was instrumental in two world championship wins (1981 and 1983) before three consecutive championship wins with McLaren Racing (1988, 1989, and 1990). In 1990 – after 50 Grand Prix wins – Gordon moved away from Formula One to establish a new company for the group, McLaren Cars Limited.

His first project there, the F1 road car, is still regarded as one of the world’s best-engineered cars. A racing version won two world sports car championships and the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1995. McLaren Cars then completed several other successful projects culminating in the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.

Gordon left McLaren in 2005 to set up Gordon Murray Design in 2007. The innovative British company became a world leader in automotive design, having a complete in-house capability for design, prototyping, and development.

In 2017, Gordon Murray celebrated the company’s 10-year anniversary at a special event, named ‘One Formula’. Gordon also celebrated the 25th production anniversary of the iconic F1 road car.

In May 2019, Professor Gordon Murray was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s New Year Honours in recognition of his contributions to the motorsport and automotive sectors. Having formed Gordon Murray Automotive, the T.50 supercar was announced in 2019 and revealed to the world in 2020. Gordon led the team to create the T.50s track car – revealed in 2021, the T.33 coupe – unveiled in 2022, plus the T.33 Spider – first shown in 2023. Phil Lee – CEO, Gordon Murray Group
Phil Lee qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked for PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) for four years. After qualifying, he moved into the automotive industry and has remained in manufacturing throughout his career.

In 2004, Phil joined Plastic Omnium and worked in director positions in China, Europe, USA, and South America. In all the roles, his greatest strength was restructuring and managing change with a major focus on delivering performance.

In 2015, Phil returned to the UK and joined the Geely Group of Companies. The first project was with the London Taxi Company, where he was responsible for the new TX5 vehicle along with a new plant and onboarding a brand-new team.

2017 saw a move to Group Lotus where Phil was responsible for overseeing the acquisition of Lotus, leading to various roles including CFO and Interim CEO. The company’s projects, including Evija, Emira, and Eletre were all developed under Phil’s directorship and proved to be key in transforming Lotus into a volume manufacturer of premium vehicles.

In 2020, Phil joined the Gordon Murray Group, leading the T.50 programme, growth of the Group, and development of the team. In April 2022, Phil became Gordon Murray Group CEO leading the next chapter of development and growth.

The historic Goodwood Motor Circuit springs into action as the Goodwood Road Racing Club comes together for a weekend of thrilling racing and on-track celebrations, all culminating in a spectacular party on Saturday evening.

Shown in ICON 88 specification, the launch series of the production specification Nichols N1A is a 900 kg, Can-Am-inspired performance car that blends motorsport heritage with cutting-edge materials and engineering. Only 15 ICON 88 models will be built, each individually tailored to commemorate one of the 15 Grand Prix victories of the McLaren MP4/4, one of the most dominant Formula One cars of all time, designed by founder Steve Nichols in 1988 for Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost.

In addition to showcasing the ICON 88, Steve Nichols himself also served as an Honorary Judge at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event. With decades of Formula One design experience, Nichols applied his famously meticulous “eye for detail” to the Concours entries.

Taking inspiration from the original McLaren M1A of the 1960s, the N1A’s flowing silhouette captures the spirit of one of McLaren’s earliest racing successes, while its execution is thoroughly modern. The body is constructed from Formula One-grade graphene-infused carbon fibre, giving it exceptional rigidity and strength at a remarkably low weight. Aerodynamic development in the MIRA wind tunnel has ensured a balance of drag and downforce that complements the car’s purity of form. In top specification, the N1A weighs just 900 kilograms, delivering a power-to-weight ratio approaching 700 bhp per tonne. In this form, power comes from a hand-built, 7.0-litre naturally aspirated V8, developed from a GM LS3 block and extensively re-engineered with steel liners, custom pistons and conrods, a dry sump system, and drive-by-wire throttle bodies, producing 650 bhp. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a Nichols-developed six-speed manual gearbox, chosen for its precision and mechanical connection.

The chassis reflects decades of motorsport expertise, with hand-fabricated independent suspension, double wishbones, anti-roll bars and motorsport-derived multi-piston brakes, all working in harmony with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres on staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. The result is an unfiltered, analogue driving experience that rewards skill and engagement.

Inside, the cockpit mirrors the minimalism of a racing car while offering bespoke craftsmanship. The fully reclined seating position recalls the McLaren MP4/4, and the Senna-inspired gear knob, classic analogue dials and billet-machined aluminium switchgear all provide a tangible connection to motorsport’s golden age. Upholstery is crafted from top-grade leather and fabrics, tailored to the customer’s specification. Driver aids are deliberately limited to maintain the purity of the experience, with traction control as standard and ABS or power steering available only as options.

Founded in 2017 by Steve Nichols and CEO John Minett, Nichols Cars was created with the aim of building a true driver’s car – immersive, emotional and timeless. With total production of the N1A capped at 100 cars worldwide, and the first 15 forming the ICON 88 series, it is set to become one of the most exclusive and desirable British performance cars of the decade.

The HCVA has been working with politicians, the DVLA and government for many years to bring certainty to the vehicle registration process, which has not been changed since the 1980s. In some instances, treasured classic cars were losing their original identification after restoration, and some were even refused registration.

These efforts were finally rewarded in 2024 when former Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper, announced a Call for Evidence while speaking at an HCVA hosted event on May 9^th at Bicester Motion, a world-renowned automotive centre of excellence. This call encouraged the classic vehicle industry, owners, and enthusiasts to have their say on the previous DVLA system, and over 1350 responses were received in less than eight weeks.

As a result of the extensive evidence submitted, the DVLA reviewed the matter in depth, working with government officials including Minister for the Future of Roads, Lilian Greenwood, and has confirmed a major update to some of its vehicle registration policies, making it significantly easier for industry and enthusiasts to register repaired, restored and modified vehicles. Two new sets of guidance that will apply to all vehicles, regardless of age, have been announced with key changes, including:

• Like-for-like repairs and restorations will no longer require notification to the DVLA, providing the vehicle’s appearance is the same as when it was originally manufactured and there are no changes to the log book (V5C)
• Vehicles that have been subject to significant structural modifications will be able to keep their original Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and registration number, but the registered keeper must notify the DVLA of the changes. 
• Vehicles that have been converted to electric will also be able to retain their original identity, but the registered keeper must notify the DVLA of the changes.

In line with Kia’s forward-looking model line-up, the EV4 comes equipped with the latest generation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The testing ensures compliance with European safety regulations.

The EV4’s comprehensive ADAS suite helps prevent and mitigate collisions using features such as Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA), and Safe Exit Assist (SEA). It also offers convenience features that maintain lane positioning and safe distances, such as Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), and Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC).

“From a development perspective, we aimed to remove as much resistance from daily driving as possible,” said Celina Geller, ADAS Engineer at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center. “For example, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control adjusts intelligently to bends in the road based on real-time map data. Features like this make auto travel more fluid and reduce the need for constant input from the driver.”

Additional features, such as Blind Spot View Monitor (BVM), Surround View Monitor (SVM), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)**, keep occupants safe while simplifying the driving experience. Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) allows the vehicle to move forward or backward using buttons on the key fob or through the Kia App, offering effortless parking in tight parking spaces with the driver outside the vehicle.

With the 12-inch Head-up Display (HUD), drivers can keep their eyes on the road while monitoring information such as vehicle speed and navigation guidance directly on the windshield. Kia’s Direct Grip Detection System (HOD – Hands On Detection) senses contact between the steering wheel and the driver’s hands to determine if they have control of the vehicle. The EV4 also comes with over-the-air (OTA) update capability to enable new features and improvements to be easily added without visiting a service centre.

In the event of a collision, the EV4’s structure is optimised with advanced passenger and battery safety designs, including a multi-load path applied to the front section of the battery area and safeguards to ensure protection during a rear-end collision. The model’s roof is capable of withstanding more than five times its total weight, while the use of a multi-rib structure in the rocker panel provides enhanced side protection for occupants.

Kia continually updates its safety offerings based on evolving regulations and customer feedback. For example, when European customers requested more dynamic acceleration in Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Kia engineers developed a more responsive version tailored to regional driving preferences.

As Kia’s first EV built in Europe for European customers, the EV4’s blend of practical technology, innovative design, and outstanding customer experience enables the vehicle to meet a diverse range of customer needs. Also available is the EV4 ‘GT-line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ which feature exclusive design elements and a more dynamic ‘GT’-inspired character.

One of only 71 produced, Chassis XKD 551 is a rare short-nose version of the D-Type and one of the last to have been manufactured. Its desirability is undeniable and further enhanced by the fact that it has never been used in competition, which will undoubtedly generate intense interest among the international collector car community.

The Jaguar D-Type will be a highlight of Broad Arrow’s Zürich Auction, which will be held in partnership with Auto Zürich at the world famous Dolder Grand hotel on Saturday 1 November 2025.

Manufactured in 1956, chassis XKD 551 was sold to its first private owner in October 1957, who rather than heading to the nearest racetrack as many D-Types did, carefully converted it to semi-XKSS specification, removing the central bulkhead, adding a passenger door, and fitting a full-width windscreen. In 1963, ownership moved to Hon. James Dawnay, who famously owned and raced the Aston Martin DBR1/1. Motorsport provenance continued when it was sold to Australian Formula 1 driver Paul Hawkins.

The 1970s saw another owner remove the XKSS-style modifications to return this highly collectible D-Type to its original configuration, and it eventually landed with its current Swiss owner in 1994. Prior to this, the original XK inline-six engine (no. E 2070-9) had been removed to ensure its preservation, with a correct specification engine fitted in its place. The new owner invested in a significant rebuild of the original engine, which continued to be preserved in storage for the next two decades. Recently, XKD 551 was reunited with its original engine, still fresh from its 2005 rebuild, and this incredible D-Type was treated to a service by the renowned Swiss specialists Graber Sportgarage in preparation for the sale.

This extremely rare, un-raced example of the iconic Jaguar D-Type, complete with matching chassis and engine numbers, represents a remarkable opportunity for any discerning collector. It is also accompanied by previous FIA Historical Identity Form (1992), FIA Passport (2009) and FIVA Identity Card (2012), and is eligible for the world's most celebrated historic racing events, including the Goodwood Revival, Silverstone Classic, Mille Miglia Storica, Le Mans Classic, Monaco Historic Grand Prix, and Spa Classic.

The Polo is one of many cars taking centre stage at this year’s British Motor Show, which starts on Friday 15 August at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre. The judging panel for the award comprised independent world-renowned car designers, engineers, auto industry figureheads, motorsport personalities, journalists, broadcasters, media professionals, vehicle retailers, automotive consultants, motor club chiefs and motoring event organisers.

The Mercedes-Benz Puch 230 GE is one of the first models created by Mercedes-Benz of its storied G-Class line and never officially imported into the US. The line of cars originated as a request from the Shah of Iran to build a capable off-roader for the harsh terrain of his country. Mercedes-Benz contracted Austrian manufacturer Puch to build the cars, and eventually bought the technology for its innovative 4WD platform for future generations of the G-Class. Driver focused
The design of this first Batur Convertible emphasises the extraordinary performance of its 740 bhp, W12 powertrain. The shimmering silver of the Opalite finish exterior is bisected by a black gloss Batur racing stripe bordered on each side by Mandarin pinstripes. The painted feature racing stripe, embedded seamlessly into the bodywork, begins at the radiator and runs rearwards over the bonnet and cockpit ‘airbridge’ before resuming along the rear deck to the Bentley wings badge. At the rear, these elements are connected by bespoke embroidery in the same formation over the rear Tonneau. The Batur’s distinctive matrix grille is finished in gloss Beluga with Mandarin orange highlights, while the same base and accent shades feature on the five-spoke alloy wheels.

‘One plus One’ interior
If the exterior of this unique Batur Convertible has echoes of classic sports racing cars, the interior develops the performance theme. Its driver-focused cockpit ‘capsule’ is visually separated from the passenger accommodation by two contrasting colourways: Beluga black on the driver’s side, Linen for the occupant of the passenger seat.

Accordingly, the driver’s seat is finished in Beluga black hide and Alcantara, with Mulliner’s Batur pattern picked out on seat bolsters and door inserts in Linen and Mandarin contrast stitching. A band of Mandarin hide encircles the driver, running from the driver’s side of the centre console across the fascia instrumentation and continuing seamlessly beneath the door waistrail.

In dramatic contrast, the passenger reclines in a sports seat in Linen hide and Alcantara with Mandarin detailing. The Batur pattern detailing on seat and door insert is on a Linen background with Mandarin contrast stitching.

Behind the two seats, the interior luggage area follows the same template, with the unique Batur pattern design in Beluga on the driver’s side and in Linen for the passenger. Even details such as the matching key cases and seat belts are co-ordinated to the two respective colourways.

Meticulous detail
The specification of this Batur Convertible reveals a passion for detail on the part of the commissioning owner, brought to life by the meticulous craftsmanship of the Mulliner team. The fascia and door waistrails are executed in a subtle satin black engine spin finish, with gloss Beluga veneer for the centre console. Outer dial bezels are finished in Beluga while the dial faces themselves are finished in light titanium.

The steering wheel is trimmed in Beluga with Linen inner surfaces and Mandarin cross stitching, with a machined titanium feature at Top Dead Centre. Other solid titanium machined features include the gearshift paddles, the rotary controls on the steering wheel stalks, the charisma rotary control on the centre console, the organ stop air vent controls and the inner ring of the bullseye air vent at either end of the fascia. The illuminated outer sill treadplates carry the Batur nameplate and the number in the series signifier.

Ultimate open-air grand tourer
Opening the rear luggage compartment reveals another delightful bespoke element. A two-piece luggage set nestles within; one corresponding to the driver’s colour scheme in Beluga and the other in Linen. As a finishing touch, Mulliner also created two bespoke key cases in the two colourways.

Batur Convertible at Monterey Week
Mulliner’s engineering development car – Batur Convertible Car Zero – made its dynamic debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and now travels to the US for Monterey Car Week, where visitors will be able to admire its bespoke duo tone finish in Vermilion Gloss over Vermillion Satin.

The Mulliner Coachbuilt family
Created by Mulliner, Bentley’s in-house bespoke division and the longest standing coachbuilder in the world, the Batur Convertible is the third car in Mulliner’s Coachbuilt family, following the Bacalar barchetta and the Batur coupé.

Strictly limited to a small number of cars, the Batur Convertible retains the most powerful version of Bentley’s iconic W12, with a 740 bhp, hand-assembled 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine.

Mulliner’s in-house design team co-creates every Batur Convertible with its clients, working together through a specially created visualiser that allows any part of the car to be customised in colour and surface finish. Like this car, each subsequent Batur Convertible will be as individual as its owner.

The Beating Heart
At its core is a completely new and bespoke 6.6-litre naturally aspirated V12, developed by Italtecnica Srl, the renowned Italian motorsport and powertrain specialists. Delivering 800 hp at 9,000 rpm and more than 700 Nm of torque, it’s a V12 designed not just to perform, but to delight with a mechanical soundtrack reminiscent of motorsports engines from a bygone era.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a longitudinally mounted 6-speed manual gearbox by Xtrac, offering unmatched tactility and engagement.

The GP1’s upper surfaces are a celebration of form, blending cues from the golden age of wedge design. While it was created from a blank piece of paper by Angel Guerra, formerly of Bugatti and Rimac, many car enthusiasts will comment on varying inspiration points. During the design phase, GP1 customers and ambassadors commented on seeing echoes of the Lancia Stratos Zero, the Countach, and other Gandini masterpieces, yet it is unmistakably its own creation, flowing, organic, and created to be modern yet timeless.

Beneath the design-led coachlines lies a very different language: pure engineering and motorsport-grade aerodynamics. Thanks to intelligent packaging, the underside accommodates some of the largest rear diffusers ever fitted to a road car, delivering true ground-effect performance.

Inside the Machine: Beauty, Simplicity, Purpose
The GP1’s interior is sculpted for driving purity. The twin-cockpit layout is free from distraction. Ventilation is seamlessly integrated into the design, eliminating ducts and clutter. A True Road Car — With a Beast Within
In the spirit of the supercar icons of the ‘80s, ‘90s and early 2000s, the GP1 is not just built to wow on a circuit, but be a true GT tourer and road car, too. Though ultralight (1,000 kg dry) and brutally fast, it offers comfort, measured cabin noise, and luggage space for grand touring.
