The new Cadillac Formula One team hasn’t competed in a Grand Prix yet, but it has already enlisted actor and filmmaker Keanu Reeves to tell its story. Reeves has signed on as host and executive producer of a multi-part, unscripted documentary series that shows what it takes to build a team from the ground up.
“Audiences will get an intimate look at the unique challenges of assembling a competitive team on an accelerated timeline, and receive a first-hand account of the vision behind establishing a distinctly American presence in a sport long dominated by European powerhouses,” TWG Motorsports, which co-created and co-owns the Cadillac Formula One team with General Motors, announced in a statement.
Filming has already started, and the project is in the hands of a London-based production company called North One. While the name might not ring a bell, some of its past projects might: It notably made a four-episode docuseries called Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story for Disney+, which Reeves also hosted.
Rather than dramatize or romanticize racing, it sounds like the goal of the series will be to give viewers a factual, behind-the-scenes look at the work involved in building a Formula One team from scratch. It’s a huge undertaking: Cadillac has never raced in Formula One before, and its racing heritage isn’t as deep as, say, Mercedes’. The team will initially use a Ferrari-supplied engine. General Motors has been approved to become an engine supplier in 2029, but it still needs to design a car from the ground up in a short amount of time. The logistics and budget required to race in Formula One add additional challenges beyond the car itself, too.
The series will premiere before the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, which is scheduled for March 8, though a precise date hasn’t been released, and we don’t know what platform it will be available on. The date wasn’t chosen randomly: The Australian Grand Prix is the first race of the 2026 season, and, more significantly, it will be the Cadillac team’s first race as well. We expect to see a trailer for the series in the coming months.
I hope this works out. I know their will be a learning curve but I would be nice for America to be really involved.
I will be “pulling for them” after all the crap they had to go through to get approval.
