Buses Are Coming to Euro Truck Simulator 2 - Everything We Know So Far

The upcoming Coaches DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 brings buses to the game. Learn about the confirmed vehicles and new gameplay additions.

Euro Truck Simulator 2's Coaches DLC is coming, bringing bus driving and new challenges!

SCS Software has officially unveiled Coaches, an upcoming DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 that takes players from hauling freight to transporting passengers. This was a feature initially teased in 2013, and it’s finally been confirmed – a full twelve years later.

This expansion introduces scheduled coach driving (a first for Euro Truck Simulator 2 outside of modding), letting you explore Europe from behind the wheel of a bus rather than a truck.

While still in early development, the studio has revealed exciting details about the new gameplay, vehicles, and infrastructure coming to the game.

Three fully licensed coaches have been confirmed so far: the Scania Touring, Volvo 9700 DD (a double-decker), and the MAN Lion’s Coach. Each model will have unique handling characteristics, requiring smoother driving than heavy trucks. Interestingly, the Scania Irizar i6, which was used as a teaser back in 2013, has not been confirmed.

Instead of cargo deliveries, players will take on timed passenger routes, navigating between bus terminals in major cities as well as remote stops. SCS has confirmed they’re reworking older stations and adding new ones to support this gameplay.

In a developer talk, multi-stop trips have also been confirmed, a distinct change from the strict point A to point B gameplay present in the base game.

This DLC isn’t just a reskin with passengers replacing cargo trailers. It’s looking to be a new way to experience Euro Truck Simulator 2’s detailed world. While trucking focuses on long hauls and cargo management, driving buses may introduce new features such as passenger management, deeper urban driving, and may even revamp the in-game economy due to the focus on passenger transport.

ETS2 also includes a driving academy, where players can learn how to drive trucks. Given that buses are a different driving experience altogether, new driving academy modules for buses may be introduced.

The question of how the DLC will be integrated into the game is still being kept under wraps, but developer talks have provided some insights on planned features. Beyond the multi-stop trips, SCS discussed the possibility of adding tour coaches and routes, where passengers are not just brought to bus stops but also points of interest across the map, such as hotels and parks.

Interestingly, the introduction of buses will also improve truck physics, as rigid truck physics are not all that dissimilar from bus physics, hinting at the possibility of further truck configurations beyond the typical truck and trailer.

A dedicated team is handling the DLC, meaning core ETS2 updates (like trucks and the open world) won’t slow down. Players have also spotted detailed bus terminals and stops in the current build of the game, prepared by the developers ahead of the DLC’s release.

No release date is set, but SCS encourages players to wishlist the DLC on Steam to support development. For deeper insights, their latest developer talk further discusses the project’s origins and goals.

The Coaches DLC is a fresh twist on ETS2’s formula, blending the game’s signature road trips with new logistical challenges. Whether you’re a veteran trucker or a newcomer, this expansion could redefine how you explore Europe.

What do you think? Ready to trade freight for passengers, or will you stick to trucking?
