Driving experts have revealed a secret fuel-saving technique for certain cars. By simply pressing a "secret button," drivers can activate fuel-conserving technology that automatically alters the vehicle’s shift patterns.
While drivers obviously have to drive sensibly to make the most of the technology, the best thing is that it's completely automated. The eco-friendly button modifies the way the engine works so that acceleration is more gradual. It does this by shifting the transmission to higher gears at a quicker rate, and by downshifting slower, so the revs remain as low as possible. This mode also cuts off the fuel supply during deceleration.
While many cars have this feature, in Hyundai, the Active ECO button is engaged by a dashboard switch to the left of the steering wheel.
Speaking on YouTube, car expert Oluwatobi Jethro Cars, explained: "It gives an indication in the gauge cluster it has been activated. It works by adjusting your shifting mode, your shifting patterns and then your engine response.
"It does drop your performance a little bit, but you save a whole lot while driving."
Brands such as Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Toyota and Volvo offer the Eco or Econ modes, though they aren’t found on all current vehicles.

Hyundai has previously said this system can increase fuel economy as much as 7%, while Ford claimed that following its driving recommendations, the 2012 Focus saves as much as 24% fuel in the mode.
In addition to an Eco mode, some vehicles offer other settings that adjust engine and transmission performance, such as Normal and Sport modes, which may also adjust steering and suspension feel.
