► Nissan’s new Juke is here
► EV version coming soon
► Built in Sunderland
This is your first look at the all-new Nissan Juke EV, a compact crossover the Japanese brand hopes will reinvigorate its electric ambitions. Unveiled at Nissan’s Vision event in Tokyo, the new Juke marks a major step in the brand’s European electrification strategy – but it also forms a spoke of much larger, global plan to propel Nissan back to the forefront of EVs and future-facing tech.
Emotion and character
The Juke may have sold 1.5 million units since its original launch in 2010, but that hasn’t stopped the brand continuing to inject both ‘emotion’ and at least character into its popular compact SUV. After all, volume doesn’t have to mean boredom. The Juke, then, promises to put Nissan’s new EV technology into a fun, practical shell.
The car you see here is certainly bold and clearly draws inspiration from origami – with numerous folds and creases along every surface. It’s a fun take on the family car.
‘Juke has always stood for bold design and a willingness to challenge convention. With this third generation, we are bringing that spirit into the electric age,’ said Clíodhna Lyons, region vice president, product, brand & marketing strategy for Nissan AMIEO. ‘As our first fully electric Juke, it will help us reach new customers while expanding choice across our electrified range.’
‘There’s a lot of commonality with the Leaf but when you put the two cars next to each other, they’re completely different cars, for completely different taste, appealing to a completely different customer. This is a good example of how we can build efficiency by utilising the same assets.
When it does come to market, it’ll be produced at Nissan’s UK-based Sunderland plant. The plant already plays an important role in the brand’s European EV strategy, but the arrival of the Juke EV should only further consolidate its importance.
