The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall notice for the Jeep Wagoneer S. It seems the liftgate hinge covers may have been improperly installed and could detach from the vehicle.
According to NHTSA, this recall notice affects as many as 11,767 vehicles. That's a lot of electric Jeeps on the road, with the potential to create weird road hazards for other motorists.
This recall covers Jeeps from 2024 up through 2026. In fact, it's enough of an issue to create a short stop sale. The rear liftgate hinge covers were not properly clipped into position at the factory.
This means the covers could detach while you're driving. That's not a good thing for other drivers on the road, who could then hit these covers.
There's already a fix in place, of course. Owners of affected vehicles should call their local dealers to schedule a service appointment. The fix could be as simple as making sure the hinge covers are properly pushed into place, but that's speculation on our part.
Regardless, the repair service is free.
Motor1's Take: While it sucks to issue a recall for any reason, this one seems like a relatively benign problem. Yes, it would suck to have your hinge cover fall off while driving. But with multiple anchor points, you'll probably hear a rattle before things go too sideways.
Either way, if you own an affected Wagoneer S, head to your local dealer and get the repair done asap.
