New C8 Corvette Grand Sport Makes A Surprise Debut

The long-awaited C8 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport made a surprise debut at the 24 Hours of Sebring race in Florida. Here's what we know.

Well, here it is. After months of rumors and speculation, the new Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport made a surprise debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring race earlier today in Florida. Chevy doesn’t have any specific details to share, but we can at least get a quick glimpse of the iconic Admiral Blue paint job and white stripes atop the C8.

A few race attendees managed to snap some pictures of the Grand Sport on the ground ahead of its official debut. Facebook user Steve Boulter posted a photo of the C8 Grand Sport in the infield of Sebring to the C8 Corvette Owners Facebook group, which you can see below:

As noted, the specifics are still under wraps. What we can see in the photos, though, is a new widebody kit (a la the Corvette E-Ray) with the Grand Sport's iconic Admiral Blue paint job, with a central white racing stripe and the iconic red hash marks on the rear. It also wears black wheels.

If we had to hazard a guess, the C8 Grand Sport hides a new 6.7-liter V8 engine, which was long rumored to make its debut in the Grand Sport. Rumor also has it that a second Grand Sport X model will debut with a hybrid setup, replacing the current E-Ray.

Of course, we'll have to wait for word from Chevy before any of the specifics are official. Until now, enjoy these images of the new Grand Sport.

Motor1's Take: Finally, our first look at the new C8 Grand Sport in the metal. It certainly looks the part with a proper body kit and Grand Sport colors, but let's hope it's also hiding the long-awaited new V8 engine, too.
