Brits are constantly on the hunt for the next bargain - and securing a used car at a bargain price is an excellent place to begin. But which model should you opt for and how certain can you be of its dependability?
According to William Fletcher, a motoring specialist and CEO of car.co.uk, there is one model that rises above the competition when selecting your next pre-owned vehicle.
Speaking to us, William identified the Toyota Yaris as his top choice. He emphasised its longevity and Toyota's extensive warranties on the vehicles.
He explained: "The humble Toyota Yaris, the 58th most popular car model in the UK, is one of the most reliable cars on British roads, with thousands of owners reporting zero faults in a given year.
"Backed by Toyota's reputation for durability, the Yaris benefits from simple, well-proven engineering and is highly dependable.
"Repair costs are typically low, it sits in modest insurance groups, and Toyota's warranty can extend up to 10 years when serviced within the network - making it one of the safest bets for hassle-free, affordable motoring."
William isn't the only automotive specialist to praise the Yaris as an outstanding car, with a mechanic who frequently posts on YouTube also commending it.
Professional mechanic David Long, also known as the Car Wizard, discussed in one video the best vehicles for new drivers. On why the Yaris proved perfect, the American technician explained: "These easily get good miles per gallon in the city and on the highway, but the key thing is that good economy in the city.
"If your kid is going to college three miles from home, they're probably not going to be on the highway much and they'll still get good fuel economy.
"These are very cute cars, I see them a lot and think that it's a really neat-looking car and it's reliable. You can get these for about $4,000 to $5,000 (£3,050 to £3,815), and those ones will be in really good shape. Plus they come in manual or automatic, whichever is the preference."
Motorists in the UK can snap up a used Toyota Yaris for approximately £1,500 with a decent third generation model selling from between £2,500 to £3,000 depending on specification.
As of 2023, RRG reported that just over 715,000 Yarises had been sold in the UK between 1999 and 2022, making it amongst the most popular small cars available in Britain.
The Yaris has seen numerous famous variations including, most spectacularly, the GR Yaris hot hatchback.
