  • Subaru has introduced the new Forester Sport Onyx Edition.
  • It features black accents, two-tone upholstery, and extra kit.
  • The company is also lowering Forester prices by up to $2,015.

Subaru introduced the 2026 Forester last summer, but now the company has announced a handful of pricing tweaks as well as a new Forester Sport Onyx Edition.

Starting with the latter, the special edition costs $36,495 and features black accents, dark gray badging, and 19-inch alloy wheels with a dark metallic finish.

The upgrades continue inside, which is adorned with black and gray StarTex upholstery featuring brown contrast stitching. The model also has a leather-wrapped steering wheel, metallic accents, and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.

Since the special edition is based on the Forester Sport, it has a street-focused suspension. Buyers will also find an SI-Drive engine performance management system with Intelligent (I) and Sport Sharp (S#) drive modes.

Pricing Tweaks

Besides announcing the Forester Sport Onyx Edition, Subaru revealed updated pricing for 2026. The company ham-fistedly didn’t explain the changes, but said the revisions reflect “Subaru’s continued emphasis on affordability and value.”

While the automaker didn’t delve into specifics, a little bit of research shows the price of entry remains unchanged at $29,995. However, the price of the Forester Premium falls from $33,385 to $31,995 for a savings of $1,390.

Likewise, the Forester Sport drops from $36,105 to $34,795 for a decline of $1,310. The off-road focused Wilderness is now $1,390 cheaper, while the upscale Limited sees a $1,700 decrease. Furthermore, the range-topping Touring falls from $41,595 to $39,995 for a savings of $1,600.

Forester Hybrid

While we’ve already seen the 2026 Forester, the company has now introduced the 2026 Forester Hybrid. Built in America, it features a handful of minor changes including a revised gear selector and an updated cup holder design.

Pricing starts at $34,730 for the Premium Hybrid, which is $1,865 less than last year’s model. The Sport Hybrid falls from $39,595 to $37,930 for a $1,665 savings. Lastly, the Limited Hybrid sees a $2,015 decrease, while the Touring Hybrid drops $1,750.

It’s not immediately clear if the company decontented trims to lower pricing, but Subaru of America’s CEO Jeff Walters said “We recognize that consumers are focused on affordability now, more than ever. This creates an opportunity to deliver even greater value for our customers in one of our core Subaru models.”

As a refresher, the Forester has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 180 hp (134 kW / 183 PS) and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a continuously variable transmission and a standard symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

The Forester Hybrid also has a 2.5-liter engine, but it’s joined by a hybrid system with a lithium-ion battery and two electric motors that are integrated into the continuously variable transmission. This gives the crossover a combined output of 194 hp (145 kW / 197 PS) and a fuel economy rating of 35 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.
