The Bentley Bentayga X Concept was shown off last weekend in partnership with FAT International

Here’s a fairly regular question for a Tuesday: how do you improve a Bentley Bentayga?
Not sure? No worries. I have the answer: by fitting four spotlights and a Bambino-size go kart on the roof. South of that, try increasing the track width by 120mm, ramping up the ride height by 55mm and then padding the wheel arches by 40mm. Stick a Brixton-created forged single piece 22-inch rim on each corner and you’re good to go.
Almost.
What now? Something that now has 310mm of ground clearance and a wading depth of over 550mm, surely needs a new name? Good point.
Let’s try Bentayga X Concept.
That works.
This car has the same four-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine developing 650bhp, but from the outside it looks like a Bentley built to take on the world. Or at least Zell am See. And Montana.
Bentley’s Bentayga X Concept was launched in the legendary lakeside Austrian resort of Zell am See last weekend, with the aim of further demonstrating the brand’s off-road credentials. Just when we thought we’d seen it all with a Bentayga drifting its way across the DirtFish Rally School horizon last month, now this.
Typically for Bentley, there was nothing run-of-the-mill about this roll out. Oh no, this was done to mark the start of a new partnership with FAT International. To the uninitiated, FAT International is a brand revived by Ferdi Porsche. You remember the original FAT? France-Allemagne Transit – sponsored Le Mans-bound Group C cars such as the victorious Dauer 962 LM in 1994.
Well, this is the same. But different. FAT International is a lifestyle, motorsport brand which runs ice races, like the one in Austria last weekend and Montana at the end of the month. It’s a lot of fun and a whole lot of fever.
It wasn’t just X Concept which stole the show in the mountains, the Bentley Travis Pastrana drove in the recently dropped Supersports: FULL SEND was also in attendance. Seen it? It’s a unique way to take a look around Bentley’s Crewe HQ…
And then, of course, there was Skijöring class, where a Bentayga Speed, driven by rally driver and broadcaster of some standing, Chris Harrs, towed Norwegian Olympic freestyle skier Hedvig Wessel.
Yep, it was one of those weekends you’re not going to forget for a while. And if you do, don’t worry, it’s all bound for Big Sky on February 27/28.
Talking about Bentley’s partnership with FAT International, marketing director Ben Whattam said: “Our new relationship with FAT International is the latest example of how we are redefining Bentley’s role in modern car culture, globally. Events like the FAT Ice Races are exciting opportunities to demonstrate the breadth of the Bentley brand, and together with FAT International we’ve even developed a new car proposal in the form of the Bentayga X Concept.
“Over this year, expect to see more activations from Bentley around the world that showcase what we do best – provide extraordinary automotive experiences to our customers, partners and fans.”
