► New Geely EX2 supermini coming to the UK
► Hugely popular electric car in China
► Will launch later in 2026
Geely Auto has confirmed that its highly popular electric supermini – the EX2 – will come to the UK. The small electric car, which is named the Geely Xingyuan in China, is expected to arrive in the second half of the year.
The EX2 is a supermini, similar in size to cars like the Renault 5 and the BYD Dolphin Surf. It’s entering an increasingly popular segment in Europe as more car makers find ways of making small electric cars affordable.
In China, the Xingyuan is proving popular already; Geely executives confirmed to us that the model regularly clocks more than 40,000 sales per month and topped 50,000 sales in December 2025. For reference, the Ford Puma sold almost 56,000 units over an entire year in the UK.
Specs for European and UK market EX2 aren’t confirmed yet but we know a few bits about it already. It uses the same Geely GEA platform as the Geely EX5 that’s already on sale in the UK market and, in international markets, can be had with LFP batteries ranging between 30 and 40kWh. As for power, there’s a single electric motor developing either 78 or 114bhp and range figures hover around 250 miles on Chinese homologation tests.
It is understood that the UK and European versions of the EX2 will also benefit from their own chassis and handling tweaks compared to those sold in China, or other markets like Malaysia; Geely insiders tell us those setups are ‘softer’ than the finalised European calibration given the different driving habits and road quality between the regions.
Its design is quite cuddly and cute, with lots of rounded edges and smooth surfaces. It’s not dissimilar to the GWM Ora 03, but this is a smaller car than the GWM.
Inside, there are many similar materials to the EX5 SUV like soft-touch, leather-like upholstery and coloured trim pieces. We’ve sat inside it and quality feels solid, with details like an oblong steering wheel, large central display and small cityscape motifs etched into the dashboard and doors that are backlit with ambient lighting.
‘We hope [the EX2] will follow the EX5 and the Starray by being very well equipped, having strong levels of quality,’ says Geely Auto UK’s marketing chief, Mark Blundell.
It’s largely impressive – particularly when a base model one can be had for as little as £6,000 in China, running off a direct currency conversion. When it reaches the UK, though, the Geely EX2 won’t be that cheap but we’re told that it will be ‘competitive’ against the competition. Michael Yang, head of Geely Auto UK, tells us: ‘we will have to think about the price and financing offer to make it easy for our customers.’ It’ll launch in the autumn of 2026.
