11 Chinese cars just like Land Rovers and BMWs but £40k cheaper

Chinese vehicles are impressing British customers with new brands such as Jaecoo, Chery and MG offering a threat to traditional brands.

The new Jaecoo is a staggering £40,000 cheaper than Range Rover models

Chinese manufacturers are taking the UK car market by storm, with traditional brands such as Land Rover and BMW facing stiff competition. Top existing Chinese brands such as BYD have made major strides over the past year, chipping away at Tesla’s dominance.

Meanwhile, new players such as Jaecii, Chery and Leapmotor have launched, impressing with top sales figures for a debut year. 2026 is set to be no different, with BYD’s premium brand Denza set to be among the pick of the models on display.

The Jaecoo 7 is the UK’s latest motoring revelation, with impressive sales figures in just its first year on the market.

Over 20,000 Jaecoo models have now been sold, with the Jaecoo now the best-selling Chinese vehicle in the UK, back in October.

The stylish interior packed full of technology for a budget price is wowing customers with families, even branding the model the ‘Temu Range Rover’.

Prices start from just over £30,000, making it around £40,000 cheaper than a brand new Range Rover.

The Chery Tiggo 7 may be smaller in size than Range Rover's premium SUVs, but the model could provide a perfect entry-level EV for those still sitting on the fence.

The model is equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof.

The Tiggo 7 Hybrid model can also reach 201 bhp, hitting top speeds of 112mph and comes with a whopping 745-mile range combining battery and combustion power.

The Tiggo 7’s petrol model will set customers back under £25,000, but the Super Hybrid model is more expensive at £29,995.

This is a quirky city compact car, but could be ideal for those living in London looking for an affordable run-around.

The model is competing with popular compact cars such as the Dacia Spring, Citroën ë-C3 and the Fiat 500e.

The model is also one of the cheapest EVs around, with owners able to get behind the wheel for around £14,495.

BYD’s premium brand Denza is expected to launch its stunning Z9GT model in the UK in 2026.

Stella Li, Executive vice-president, claimed Denza’s models would be “10 times better than the competition” which is set to keep traditional Western manufacturers on their toes.

Especially when considering that Denza is set to compete directly with premium car brands BMW and Mercedes-Benz

The Z9 GT will be fitted with 952bhp, can top 149mph and can reach 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds.

However, the model is likely to be expensive, with estimates suggesting it could be valued between £70,000 and £90,000.
