Cut-price Model Y Standard soon arrives in Britain - will a cheaper version of Tesla's best-selling EV be a hit?

Tesla has brought its Model Y Standard - a more 'affordable' entry-level version of the SUV - to the UK. It's on sale now, with deliveries expected from February.

Tesla has launched the long-awaited Model Y Standard in the UK, offering a more affordable slice of its bestselling electric SUV with prices kicking off at £44,990 before incentives. Deliveries begin in February 2026, giving buyers a sub-£45,000 route into Tesla ownership amid rising demand for compact family EVs.

Stripped back from pricier Long Range and Performance trims, the Standard packs a 320-mile WLTP range from a 62kWh battery, rear-wheel drive, and acceleration to 62mph in 5.9 seconds. It retains the core Model Y strengths: minimalist cabin with 15-inch touchscreen, Autopilot hardware, over-the-air updates, and access to Tesla's Supercharger network. UK buyers qualify for salary sacrifice tax breaks and potential second-hand EV grants, potentially dropping effective costs below £40,000 for company car drivers.

This move plugs a gap in Tesla's lineup as rivals like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 flood the market with competitive pricing and longer ranges. Tesla's factory in Berlin ramps up Standard production to meet European orders, while UK right-hand-drive conversions ensure seamless local fit. Expect strong fleet uptake, with early signs pointing to rapid sell-outs.

The Standard Y cements Tesla's volume play. Affordable enough for the masses, capable enough to convert sceptics. Order now; February waits for no one.
