TVR Is Back Again—And It Could Go Electric

A company called Charge Holdings has taken ownership of the TVR name with plans to revive the Griffith with an ‘electrified’ powertrain.

TVR is back—again. For real this time. Maybe. The British sports car maker that seems impossible to kill has a new owner, less than a decade after businessman Les Edgar tried—and failed—to revive the company for a second time.

Charge Holdings has reportedly acquired the TVR name. The company is the same one behind Charge Cars, which in 2022 introduced a restomodded Ford Mustang with a fully electric powertrain. Now, Charge Holdings plans to take a similar approach with TVR.

According to multiple reports, Charge aims to produce and sell the striking Griffith concept unveiled in 2022. The move will be part of a "multi-phased restructuring," according to Top Gear, with an “electrified” powertrain replacing the concept’s original 5.0-liter V8, which produced 500 horsepower. The company stated:

'TVR will remain focused on delivering the new Griffith to customers, continuing its legacy of high-performance, internal combustion sports cars.'

Details are still scarce, but CEO Paul Abercrombie promises that more information will be revealed early next year. If the new ownership sticks, the long-awaited Griffith revival may finally make it to production—V-8 likely not included.
