Chinese manufacturer Geely has just launched a new budget electric car which is at least £40,000 cheaper than a Range Rover. The new Geely EX5 hit the UK market in October 2025, with the SUV priced at just £31,990.
From the outside, the new EX5 could even pass for a Range Rover, with the model sharing many design characteristics with the market-leading off-roader. The EX5 is Chinese brand Geely’s first offering in the UK and could prove popular among consumers. The EX5 comes in three trims in the UK - with customers able to choose from the SE, Pro and Max model ranges.
All three models are fitted with a 218hp motor and 60kWh LFP battery pack with average ranges varying from 255-267 miles, according to WLTP estimates. Geely claims the EX5 can charge its battery from 30–to-80% in just 20 minutes, which could make it a favourite among commuters.
The EX5 has a top speed of 109 mph, with owners able to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 6.9 seconds. Inside, the EX5 is fitted with comfortable extras including heated seats and a 15.4-inch touchscreen. The Max model is also fitted with a state-of-the-art 16-speaker stereo.
For peace of mind, Geely is throwing in an eight-year warranty and early buyers will even secure a free home charging cable. Geely is the latest challenger in the UK and comes after the success of Chinese brands such as Jaecoo, Chery and Omoda.
Geely has big plans for the UK, with the brand hoping to launch four cars in the UK by the end of 2026. The Chinese brand also has hopes for a sizeable dealer network, with 25 already open and 100 expected by next year.
Geely Auto has ambitious goals for the UK, with bosses openly admitting they are targeting annual sales of around 100,000 by 2030.
Jerry Gan, CEO of Geely Auto Group, said: “Entering the UK market marks a significant milestone in deepening Geely's European strategy and heralds a new chapter in electric mobility across Europe. We are committed to delivering innovative and sustainable products while building enduring relationships of mutual trust with our customers and partners. Geely Auto looks forward to advancing alongside the European market and co-creating the future.”
Brand-new Range Rover models are available from around £70,000 but prices can dramatically increase based on the spec or model. The new Range Rover Electric models set to launch in 2026 could even start at over £100,000.
