This 1998 Toyota Supra Turbo Looks Like It Just Left The Factory Yesterday

Owing to the low-mileage, this Supra shows very little signs of wear and tear

  • A 1998 Toyota Supra with 6,100 miles heads to Mecum’s Kissimmee auction.
  • It remains completely unmodified with its original twin-turbo 2JZ engine.
  • Features include a six-speed manual and factory Super White paintwork.

In the world of A80-generation Toyota Supras, this example you see here comes about as close to perfection as one could hope for.

It carries Toyota’s celebrated 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged 2JZ inline-six instead of the naturally aspirated alternative, pairs it with a manual gearbox rather than an automatic, has exceptionally low mileage, remains completely unmodified, and hails from the model’s final production year.

If you’ve been waiting to add a pristine Supra to your garage, this might be your best chance to do it.

Mecum Auctions has added this 1998 Supra to its Kissimmee sales event scheduled for January 10, and it’s bound to attract plenty of attention.

Given how popular the A80 Supra is to modify, it’s challenging to find one that hasn’t been tuned or upgraded, whether mechanically or visually. However, this one is entirely original.

Preserved Since ’98

The car was purchased new in August of 1998 in Pinellas Park, Florida, and is exactly as it was when it left the factory. It’s painted in Super White and sits on the original five-spoke alloy wheels with a bright chrome finish. According to the listing, it’s been driven just 6,100 miles in the past 27 years.

There’s no detailed record of how the Supra has been stored or maintained over the decades, though visually it appears exceptionally well-kept. The paintwork shows no obvious flaws, and the body looks fresh enough to suggest it’s spent most of its time indoors

Similarly, the interior also looks pristine. Mecum also notes that the removable targa roof has never actually been removed.

Underneath the hood sits Toyota’s revered 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged 2JZ-GTE inline-six, a powerplant that helped cement the Supra’s reputation for performance and durability. From the factory, it produced 321 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque, delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Period testing saw 0–60 mph (97km/h) in around 4.9 seconds without a rollout and a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).

It’ll be interesting to see how much the car sells for. Some low-mileage Supras of this vintage have sold for over $200,000 over the past few years, and while the market seems to have cooled from the peak in 2022, we’d be shocked if bidding on this car didn’t at least reach $150,000.
