Toyo And Nitto Recall Nearly 37,000 Truck And SUV Tires For Dangerous Tread Separation

Toyo and Nitto are recalling almost 37,000 truck and SUV tires after discovering a defect that could cause the tread to separate, raising the risk of catastrophic blowouts and crashes.

This week, Toyo Tires sounded the alarm, issuing a recall for 36,919 on- and off-road truck and SUV tires across both Toyo and Nitto brands. The recall was triggered by a manufacturing glitch: contamination in the process could cause the tread to peel away from the tire at highway speeds. The tires span 64 different types and sizes, impacting popular models like the Nitto Crosstek 2, Dura Grappler, Mud Grappler Extreme, Recon Grappler, Ridge Grappler, Terra Grappler G3, Trail Grappler, and Toyo Open Country A/T, H/T, M/T, and R/T.

According to Toyo, the defect happened in late January 2025, right after a mechanical repair on belt machinery. While only 1% of the recalled tires are estimated to be affected, tread separation is serious business ... think sudden loss of control, flipped trucks, and potentially deadly rollovers. Fortunately, Toyo is not aware of any injuries or fatalities tied to this recall, but they are urging owners to inspect DOT codes on their tire sidewalls and contact dealers for free replacements if they match those batch dates.

The recall campaign is genuine and urgent. If your tread looks weird, feels rough, or vibrates at speed, don’t risk it. Take your Toyos or Nittos to a dealer and demand the check.
