On Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series raced at Martinsville Speedway. The race was the final playoff elimination race ahead of the championship race.
Sam Mayer was in the battle for one of the championship spots.
Early in the race, Sam Mayer shipped Jeb Burton off the front row. Burton was forced wide on older tires. From that point, Burton became a headache for Sam Mayer, in Mayer’s eyes.
After the checkered flag, Sam Mayer found the bumper of Jeb Burton. He shipped him into the outside wall.
On the pit lane after the race, there were fiery comments from both drivers. Mayer also admitted to turning Burton after the race in frustration.
NASCAR will not like any of it. And, this morning, they hinted there’s a penalty on the way…

“We’ll meet with our team today here at the R&D Center,” Elton Sawyer stated via Sirius XM NASCAR Radio of Sam Mayer.
“I know a lot of work has already gone into gathering some information on that situation. I anticipate something coming out of that.” He added, “I don’t know exactly what that will be.”
“But having those types of incidents after the checkered flag is not something we’re going to tolerate. We’ll get with our team today, discus it and see what the next steps are.”
“I’ll let our series director will run point, Eric Peterson. He’ll talk to both drivers, in this case, Jeb and Sam. You know, get their side of the story.”
“We’ll go back and look at all the replay. We’ll look at the race in its entirety to see what unfolded, early on.”
“We take all that and we look at prior situations that are similar and we’ll make a decision on how we move forward.”
“As I said earlier, when things happen after the race, we start using vehicles to run into each other, that rises to a different level. We’ll respond accordingly.”
The weekly penalty report is typically released on Tuesday or Wednesday.
