NASCAR penalty pending for Sam Mayer after Martinsville (Video)

Big NASCAR penalty coming for Sam Mayer after Martinsville. Sam Mayer crashes Jeb Burton after the finish at Martinsville Speedway.

On Saturday night, the NASCAR Xfinity Series raced at Martinsville Speedway. The race was the final playoff elimination race ahead of next week’s championship race.

Sam Mayer was one of the drivers in the battle at the playoffs cutline. He needed a win to advance into the finale.

Early in the race, Sam Mayer and Jeb Burton rubbed fenders. After the race, it came full circle.

After crossing the finish, Sam Mayer drove into the rear of Jeb Burton, turning his around and putting him into the wall.

NASCAR frowns upon post-race contact. A fine and penalty are likely on the way.

We were in a really good spot. It ended up being a kind of must-win, Sam Mayer told the CW after the race.

“I was just giving it all I had right there. The No. 27 did us no favors last week. He caused a demolition derby and a parking lot on the front straightaway at the fastest racetrack we go to.”

“Now, he decides to be an absolute (expletive) in this go around and race a guy with a purple spoiler. Just awful. Awful to be around him, all day.”

“He’s just fast enough to be really annoying. But, not fast enough to do anything else worth a damn. It sucks to be in that spot around him.”

“I’m probably going to get in trouble for this interview already. Just trying to make up for it.”

After the incident, Jordan Anderson came over to have a talk with Sam Mayer. Anderson is the owner of Burton’s No. 27 car.

“I honestly hate it for Jordan. He’s one of the coolest guys in the garage. He’s worked his tail off to get to this point.”

“I definitely regret wrecking one of his racecars after the competition’s over. But, Jeb needs a wakeup call. That brotha, he does not have the it factor he has the different factor.”

“He shipped me. I was on the front row, I think we all saw that, for no reason,” Jeb Burton stated of a previous incident.

“I’ve always raced Sam really clean. Never had really a problem with him.”

“I moved him, at the end, for a spot. Because I was still pissed off at what he did. When he moved me, I went back to 20th and it really almost ruined our day.”

“So, that’s why I moved him back. I didn’t wreck him. Just moved him.”

“And, at the end of the race, after the checkered he destroyed our car and wrecked us. So, hopefully NASCAR does something because he literally right-reared me into the outside wall. I hate it for my guys, to tear up a car.”

“I race a lot of guys out here with respect. And, I just want it back.”

“He ran over me, for no reason. I gave it back to him. And he threw a temper tantrum.”

“I would love to talk to him. But, there wouldn’t be much talking right now.”

“When it matters the most for him. He’s in a really good car, it’s not going to work out very well for him.”

“The way he acts, he’s a punk. I think everybody knows it.”
