Tesla Recalls Over 63,000 Cybertrucks Because the Front Lights Are Too Bright

Tesla is recalling more than 63,600 Cybertrucks due to the front parking lights being excessively bright, which could distract oncoming drivers and increase the risk of crashes.

Tesla recently announced a recall involving 63,619 Cybertrucks produced between 2024 and 2026. The reason: the front parking lights emit more brightness than allowed by US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, potentially impairing the visibility of drivers approaching from the opposite direction. This could increase the chance of accidents.

The unusually bright light output comes from a software issue where the vehicle’s controller instructs the LED units to operate at higher intensity than designed. Thankfully, the fix is straightforward, Tesla is rolling out a free over-the-air software update to reduce the brightness and bring the lights into compliance.

Despite the recall’s severity, no collisions, injuries, or fatalities have been reported so far linked to the lighting problem. Tesla will begin notifying affected owners on December 13, and anyone with questions can contact Tesla’s customer service or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline.

This recall adds to the growing list of Tesla vehicle fixes this year. Yet Tesla’s quick OTA fix means owners won’t have to visit service centers for repairs, easing the inconvenience.

If you own a Cybertruck from these model years, keeping your vehicle’s software updated is the easiest way to stay safe and legal on the road.
