‘I called out a driver breaking supermarket age limit rule - this is what happened’

A driver has called out motorists who violate one supermarket car park policy and even approached a road user breaking the rule.

A frustrated motorist has revealed they approached a driver breaking one of the most important supermarket car park rules, and was baffled when they got one simple response. TikTok @leeshandmoo explained they were annoyed when motorists stop in parent and child parking bays when they don’t have any kids.

Supermarkets often place these larger spaces in their car parks to offer some extra room for parents to strap up their children into car seats. The bays can only be used by parents and guardians of children aged 12 and under, although road users are noticing road users using the spaces regardless. Motorists just stopping in the bays without a reason are running the risk of fines with @leeshandmoo also confused by the move.

Speaking on TikTok, @leeshandmoo said: “Judge me all you want but when people park in the spaces that is parent and child and they don't have a child.

“Oh my God, it frustrates me so bad, I do look and check as well. I check if they have children as well, sometimes you just get an inkling there’s no child.”

The TikTok user admitted she has even taken matters into her own hands, approaching one motorist who was using the bays despite having no children with her. However, when approached, the lady seemed to admit that she was aware the space was being used incorrectly.

@leeshandmoo added: "I don’t know why I said anything at that time because there were so many spaces and I could have taken one and minded my own business. But just for your morals and your ethics you shouldn't be doing it.

“I said to her ‘excuse me, you don't have a child’, she had like seven dogs in the back of the car.

“She looked at me really sad and to be fair she did say to me she had lost someone really close to her and she was really upset and she was just buying funeral flowers.. But that doesn't change the fact you're in a child and mother bay without children.”

Parent and child bays are usually around 120cm wider, allowing motorists around 150cm of room to get in and out of a car compared to 3cm for ordinary spaces.

A previous poll of 2,000 drivers from Churchill found that over a quarter of road users (28%) say they use 'parent and child' bays when they don't have a kid in the car with them.
