Will Power to Make Sportscar Racing Debut at 2025 Indianapolis 8 Hour

Two-time IndyCar champion and 2018 Indy 500 winner Will Power will take on a new challenge, making his sportscar debut at the Indianapolis 8 Hour, racing a Mercedes-AMG GT3 with team 75 Express.

Will Power, a giant of American open-wheel racing and a five-time winner at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, is stepping into the world of sportscar racing for the first time. The Australian driver, best known for his IndyCar success, will suit up for the 75 Express team in the 2025 Indianapolis 8 Hour race, held from October 16 to 18.

Power’s entry marks a new chapter after a highly successful IndyCar career that includes the 2018 Indy 500 triumph and two series championships. Joining him in the No. 75 Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be team owner-driver Kenny Habul and fellow Aussie and Supercars star Chaz Mostert. Power and Habul share a long-time friendship and rivalry dating back to their days competing in the Australian Formula Ford Championship, making this collaboration both nostalgic and promising.

Originally, Power was set to debut in sportscar racing earlier at the 2023 Rolex 24 at Daytona, driving with Habul's SunEnergy 1 Racing Team, but had to pull out due to personal reasons related to his wife's health.

The Indianapolis 8 Hour will serve as a proving ground for Power to apply his exceptional road racing skills to GT3 machinery. Though new to GT3, his extensive experience at the iconic Indianapolis road course and his natural competitive edge make him a serious contender in the Pro class.

This race is part of the 2025 Intercontinental GT Challenge and GT World Challenge America seasons, and it draws an elite field of drivers from all disciplines. Power’s involvement continues a trend of top IndyCar stars venturing into endurance racing, following the likes of Alex Palou who raced at Indy last year.

As Power gets behind the wheel of the 75 Express Mercedes-AMG GT3, fans will be watching closely to see how one of IndyCar’s most successful figures adapts to multi-class endurance racing. Whether it leads to a new direction for his career or simply adds another impressive chapter to his motorsport journey, the Indianapolis 8 Hour promises an exciting weekend of racing and highlights Power’s versatility as a world-class driver.
