- Honda dealer admits adding $10K–$15K markup on every Civic Type R sold.
- Reddit user exposed dealer’s “Additional Dealer Profit” fee, sparking outrage.
- Acura Integra Type S offers same performance, often selling at or below MSRP.
The new-car market might have cooled off from its pandemic frenzy, but some dealers just can’t kick the habit of gouging customers and damaging their brand’s reputation in the process. Honda of Fort Myers is a prime example, quietly stacking $10,000 to $15,000 on top of every Civic Type R it sells. That’s not speculation either; a salesperson at the dealer openly confirmed that to Carscoops, and that might not be the most maddening part of it all.

The car sparking outrage on Reddit is a 2025 Civic Type R with Boost Blue Pearl paint and a black interior. On the dealer site, it’s listed for $47,975, and in fact, there’s a button to “Unlock Best Price,” which asks for a bunch of personal information before saying someone will be in contact. Don’t worry about giving up that info either, because on the same page, Honda of Fort Myers says “we don’t just sell cars – we welcome you into our family. Let us be your trusted partner for all your automotive needs.”
Family Ties, With Conditions
How would your family treat you when it comes to the price of a new car? Would they gouge you out of $10k-$15k more than Honda itself says you should pay for this car? If so, it sounds like you’re a member of the Honda of Fort Myers family already. In fact, if there’s anything good to say here, it’s that at least the dealer will openly disclose the markup once you’re in the building or call.
A sticker on the car posted to Reddit shows a wild $15,000 charge for “Additional Dealer Profit.” On top of that, they’re charging $599 for all-weather floor mats and another $399 for door edge guards. At least they didn’t charge extra for air in the tires… yet.
Outrage in the Comments
The reaction online was less than favorable and not just toward the dealer itself. “That upcharge should be illegal, but Honda doesn’t do anything about it. COMPLETE SCAM,” read one. “It’s called ripping off customers because the sales are down from ripping off customers!”, said another. And here’s the wildest part about it all.
The Acura Integra Type S is a better car in every way, has an MSRP of $54,095, and often goes for that or even less due to some discounts. The lesson for consumers is straightforward: you might want to skip Honda of Fort Myers if you’re looking for a deal on a Civic Type R. The lesson for Honda should be obvious, too: stop dealers like this from having access to cars that they mark up like this.
