Slated to open officially in November 2025, the new headquarters will be known as the Ford World Headquarters and will sit within the expanded Henry Ford II World Center—a reimagined product development campus aimed at uniting innovation and collaboration.
The current Glass House, with its extensive glass façade, has served as Ford’s base since 1956 but will be vacated by early 2026. The company plans to sustainably demolish the historic building by late 2027 or mid-2028. While the Glass House spans 950,000 square feet and housed around 2,000 employees, the new facility is much larger—2.1 million square feet—and designed to accommodate up to 4,000 workers with a broader spectrum of engineering, design, and corporate teams.
One of the key motivations behind the move is to break down silos and foster real-time collaboration. Ford’s leadership, including Executive Chair Bill Ford, has emphasized that co-locating executive and product development teams in a modern, integrated environment enables faster decision-making and innovation. The new campus features seven restaurants, outdoor workspaces, and design elements influenced by Apple’s headquarters, aiming to attract top talent and boost employee satisfaction.
The company reviewed current workspace inefficiencies—such as the lengthy time it took to move parts or vehicles between buildings—and streamlined them to minutes at the new site thanks to vertical integration and thoughtfully designed layouts.
Ford will retain ownership of the Glass House land and is working with city officials on plans to transform it into green space or parkland, preserving the company’s heritage and enhancing community vibrancy.
As Ford embarks on this new chapter, the move symbolizes a commitment to modernize while honoring decades of automotive history. The transition to the new headquarters reflects Ford’s broader transformation toward innovation, collaboration, and sustainability as it gears up for the next century of automotive leadership.
