George Russell faced a tough challenge all weekend at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, battling the flu while maintaining focus and determination. Despite his illness, Russell managed a remarkable drive, securing second place on race day for Mercedes.

Russell had missed media duties earlier in the weekend and admitted his condition made the event particularly grueling. He credited the nature of the Baku Circuit, which is demanding but mentally less strenuous than some tracks, for enabling him to push through the pain and perform well.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff praised Russell’s resilience, noting he almost had to replace him with reserve driver Valtteri Bottas. Russell’s strong long stint in the race allowed him to overtake key competitors and climb to the podium, giving Mercedes a boost in the Constructors’ Championship.

Reflecting on the weekend, Russell expressed relief and gratitude for the outcome, looking forward to rest while celebrating the team's progress against fierce rivals Ferrari and Red Bull in the championship battle.
