- Mercedes has teased the return of the G-Class Cabriolet.
- It’s expected to be offered in more markets including the US.
- The model could debut next week with gas and electric power.
The Mercedes G-Class lineup is set to grow as the company has teased the return of the cabriolet variant. The automaker didn’t say much, but revealed the icon is evolving and the top is about to go down.
That’s not much to go on, but the teaser image shows a familiar silhouette with a boxy front end and an upright windscreen. Bigger changes occur further back as the retractable roof appears to begin just aft of the A-pillar. The third-quarter glass is also missing, giving the model a profile that vaguely recalls the Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet.

The model will reportedly be offered in most markets including in the United States. That’s long overdue, especially given the popularity of the G-Class in America.
Little else is known about the G Cabriolet at the moment, but the timing suggests the model could debut at next week’s Munich Motor Show. It would then presumably be launched in 2026.
Engine options should echo the regular model and this means there could be a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 443 hp (330 kW / 449 PS) and 413 lb-ft (559 Nm) of torque. There should also be a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 developing 577 hp (430 kW / 585 PS) and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque.
It’s also not hard to imagine and EQ variant with four electric motors and a 116 kWh battery pack. This setup enables the regular model to produce a combined output of 579 hp (432 kW / 587 PS) and 859 lb-ft (1,163 Nm) of torque.
