Last weekend’s Java House Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca marked a turning point for IndyCar racing at the historic venue, sparking optimism for the series' future there. Laguna Seca, known for hosting the former CART IndyCar Series in the 1980s and ’90s, drew what appeared to be the largest crowd at an IndyCar race since the series’ return in 2019.

Attendance steadily grew over the race weekend, with Friday setting a strong tone, continuing into Saturday and peaking on race day. Younger fans made up a significant portion of the crowd, energized by the high-profile battle between Alex Palou and Pato O’Ward, who started side-by-side and raced for 95 thrilling laps under blue skies.

Andretti Global COO Rob Edwards and race officials praised the improvements made at the track by the Friends of Laguna Seca organization, which invested in upgrades, beautification, and promotions that helped attract more spectators. Ticket sales were reportedly up 20 percent compared to 2024, thanks in part to the strong promotional efforts and facility enhancements led by the track's new General Manager, Mel Harder.

IndyCar president Doug Boles expressed his satisfaction with the healthy turnout, noting not only the crowd size but also a marked increase in merchandise sales—an indicator of fan engagement. The energy and enthusiasm from newcomers attending for the first time reinforced the venue’s value and potential as a staple of the IndyCar calendar.

Despite some open seats in grandstands and general admission areas, the 2025 Java House Grand Prix of Monterey brought renewed hope that Laguna Seca could recapture its status as one of North America’s premier road course destinations for IndyCar racing.

The weekend highlighted the series’ ability to attract fans and create unforgettable racing moments on the iconic track, home to the legendary "Corkscrew" turn—a six-story drop that remains one of the sport’s most famous corners.

As the series moves forward, IndyCar officials and track promoters are confident the momentum generated by this successful event will lay the foundation for sustained growth and fan support at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
