Ericsson’s Andretti seat is secure, Edwards says

Marcus Ericsson continues to endure his toughest IndyCar season to date, but according to Andretti Global COO Rob Edwards, there’s no reason to question the team's commitment to the Swede.

Marcus Ericsson is enduring his toughest IndyCar season to date, struggling to find consistent results despite his proven talent and determination. According to Andretti Global COO Rob Edwards, there is no reason to question the team’s commitment to the Swede, who continues to work hard to turn around his fortunes.

Ericsson’s 2025 season has been marked by frustration and near-misses. At the Indianapolis 500 earlier this year, he came agonizingly close to victory, holding the lead late into the race before a decisive late-race pass by Alex Palou relegated him to second place. Ericsson described replaying that moment "a million times" in his head, highlighting how deeply it affected him.

The season overall has been a rollercoaster. After a promising start with some top-10 finishes, including a strong showing in St. Petersburg and Long Beach, Ericsson faced setbacks that saw results dip sharply. A practice crash at Indianapolis and contact with other cars in races hampered his momentum, culminating in several finishes well outside the points.

Despite the struggles, Ericsson remains positive about his prospects. He credits his familiarity with the team and his renewed focus on training, including adding muscle and time in a home simulator, for helping him prepare mentally and physically for a rebound. He believes the second season with a team is often when drivers find their stride, pointing to his successful second seasons with previous teams as examples.

Andretti Global’s core structure largely remains intact, and the organization has shown improvement, especially on oval tracks—with teammates achieving wins and poles which Ericsson views as encouraging signs. The team believes it has “all the tools” to compete for race wins and the championship, and Ericsson is motivated to be a serious contender once more.

While 2025 has been his most challenging IndyCar season so far, Marcus Ericsson’s determination and the unwavering support from Andretti Global suggest he is far from finished. The coming races remain an opportunity for the experienced Swede to showcase his speed and regain his competitive momentum.
