Car on M1 stopped with children sitting on passengers' laps

Police say two children, aged one and two, were found "unrestrained" in a back of a moving vehicle.

Two small children have been spotted travelling on passengers' laps in a car on a motorway with no seatbelts around them.

Hertfordshire Police said its unmarked vehicle stopped a Yaris on the M1 at Redbourn near St Albans at about 18:35 BST on Thursday.

Officers discovered both children were "unrestrained" in the rear of the vehicle.

The car was told to leave the motorway and the driver and passengers were "dealt with via a Traffic Offence Report", it added.
